Peter Carl Fabergé (1846 - 1920) Goldsmith to the Imperial Court of Russia
Russian goldsmith and jeweller. Among his masterpieces was a series of jewelled Easter eggs, the first of which was commissioned by Alexander III for the tsarina in 1884.
His workshops in St Petersburg and Moscow were celebrated for the exquisite delicacy of their products, especially the use of gold in various shades.
Under his leadership, Fabergé became the largest jewellery firm in the world
employing a team of around 500 designers, goldsmiths, gem-cutters, modellers and enamellers
Fabergé fled the country following the October Revolution in 1917.
Fabergé died in exile in Lausanne, Switzerland.
